Our project team, Lake Ecosystem Restoration New Zealand (, hosted by the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Waikato, seeks a PhD student to develop a rotenone rapid assay and explore impacts of rotenone use on non-target native species. The student will be aligned with our Freshwater Outcome Based Investment in Lake Biodiversity, a 10 year research programme (July 2005 to June 2015), funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation (MSI).

Applicants should have a BSc (Hons) in chemistry, biological sciences, earth sciences, engineering or some aligned field. Strong chemistry background and problem solving skills would be highly desirable. The successful applicant will have good communication skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team. Experience working with fish or other aquatic organisms is highly desirable.
