University of West of England offers scholarship for PhD students in the UK. Scholarship is provided in the faculty of health and life sciences. Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest in experimental psychology and psychopharmacology or sports science and human biology and should have excellent written and oral presentation skills. Application should be submitted till 1st October 2013.. Caffeine consumption has been associated with improved performance and reducing fatigue, as well as performance deficits associated with extended performance and reduced sleep.  Recommended adult consumption may be up to 400mg daily, although some groups such as pregnant women are advised to have lower average consumption. There is current interest in the effects of caffeine consumption through sports drinks. The proposed programme of work will include both consumption surveys and experiments assessing cognitive effects and physical/sports performance of caffeine and caffeinated beverages. This PhD studentship will provide the opportunity for a motivated and capable student to generate new knowledge regarding caffeine consumption through surveys, together with the assessment of caffeine/caffeinated beverages in controlled studies..  This scholarship is available for pursuing PhD degree level at University of West of England, UK.

Who can apply to this scholarship? Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a first class or good 2:1 honours degree, or a distinction or high merit at MSc level (or international equivalent) in a relevant area of psychology or pharmacology, sports science or human biology.
· Applicants should be able to demonstrate an interest in experimental psychology and Psychopharmacology or sports science and human biology, and should have excellent written and oral presentation skills.
· The candidate should understand that the PhD programme will include interdisciplinary aspects (Psychopharmacology, sports performance) and will require the ability to develop knowledge and practical skills in a number of key areas and apply them within the context of the research.
Benefits of the scholarship:  The scholarship will consist of an annual maintenance bursary of £15,726, subject to satisfactory progress, for up to three years. In addition, full-time tuition fees will be covered for three years (Home/EU rates only). Overseas applicants will be required to cover the difference between the Home/EU and the overseas tuition fee rates (approximately £7,565 per annum).
